Surge and Wave Island Modeling Studies (SWIMS) ($1,000,000)
The requested funding would be used for continuing work on Surge and Wave Island Modeling Studies.
Funding will be used to continue the development of the next generation island storm surge model in conjunction with the University of Hawaii and other universities. These advances in the modeling of the science and engineering of the wave-reef interactions during hurricane/typhoon conditions will provide for better island inundation predictions and designs of navigation and shore protection structures. The State of Hawaii Office of Civil Defense is a strong supporter of this effort.
Recipient: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
Honolulu District, Building 230
Fort Shafter, Hawaii 96858-5440
Why this is a good use of taxpayer dollars: The project will provide for better island inundation predictions and designs of navigation and shore protection structures.
