Hawaii Watershed Management - Waiahole Irrigation, Oahu ($2,000,000)
The requested funding would be used to allow the Hawaii Water Management Project to continue to bank funds to allow awarding a fully funded construction contract in FY2012 for the rehabilitation of the Waiahole public irrigation system.
Diversified agriculture is an important factor contributing to both the economic stability and food security of Hawaii. Farmers in Hawaii are already faced with high land costs; there is a growing need to provide reliable and affordable water supplies to sustain Hawaii’s diversified agriculture sector.
